  1. He also had a 1960 Gibson Les Paul that Johnny Marr gave to him. It's the one on tracks like "Slide Away". I'll also say Sheraton.
  2. aha, I suspected it wouldn't be an "off the peg" model, so to speak. It's unusual for him, as I've never seen him with a 3-pickup LP, ever. Maybe he just wanted something that looks flashy for TV and gigs.
  3. Hmm, last time I was around here, I was only on the Epi forums, now I find they are merged. Anyway, on with my query. One of my favourite Les Paul users is James Dean Bradfield, lead guitarist and lead singer of the Manic Street Preachers. Typically he plays white LP customs live (and more recently without pickup covers, some claim he's using Duncan Alnico II pro humbuckers, which makes sense, as he was a bit of a Slash fan back in the day). this week, I was watching Later With Jools Holland because they were one of the bands on. First song they did, I spotted James playing a 3-pickup
  4. I've been GAS-ing for a strat lately. I'd heard good things about the Squier Classic Vibe Teles, so am I to assume the strats are just as good? I've been throwing a few ideas around lately, like building one, or buying a decent cheap one and changing the pickups - I've been considering the idea of making my own "Billy Corgan strat", by getting one of those Squier Classic Vibe 50s Strats, and fitting Lace Sensors, like the one he used for the bulk of Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie. If I can get the funds together, I may just decide to get either a 70's reissue (like the ones he used c
  5. I don't have much recollection, but I don't seem to remember there being anything with it really, maybe a lead. Might have been a booklet of sorts in there as well. I've taken a couple of photos of the box, just a minute ago: The box itself The writing on one end of the box: Excuse the surrounding mess. I have no idea what was scribbled out there, may have just been in Chinese. The seller was saying he was getting these sent to him direct from china, then sending them on to whoever bought them. That should have set alarm bells ringing right there. Surroundi
  6. There's a shop near where I work, and I often stop by the front window after work to have a look (It's on my way to the bus station - why not?). Usually the stuff they sell is mid-priced Fenders and until recently Epiphone, that kind of thing. Anyway, they had one that had been discolored not much different to that one. Both must have been gigged to within an inch of their lives in smoky clubs, as you say. It's the only thing I can think of.
  7. I had never actually thought of using it as a "test bed"! I have actually considered seeing what can be done to improve on it. Maybe just gut the thing. I've been looking at GFS pickups and fitting some of those - that seems to be the only truly "weak" area on it(and the strap buttons keep working loose - that can be fixed though), it's fine for what it cost me at the time - £235. My 2001 Epi LP cost £385, and I cannot feel that much of a difference. I'm also about have the pickups changed in my favourite guitar - my Epiphone Dot. I'm getting someone else to fit those though - The B
  8. Nowhere near as good as my real Epi Les Paul (a black standard bought in person in 2001), not as muddy, but seems weaker to my ears. Could be a good guitar with some new pickups! Like I say, I was planning on selling it (along with another guitar) because I don't really need 2 Les Pauls, and to finance another guitar purchase. If it's fake I can't really sell it. Not with a clear conscience anyway! Good for posing with, anyway!
  9. Thanks. I did have my suspicions later on, but that was after I bought it.
  10. I'm currently considering getting a strat of some sort. Possibly a Billy Corgan signature model, because I'm a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan. Either that or a classic 70's reissue. I prefer the look of the large headstock.
  11. I have a guitar that I am planning to sell off, but I am a little curious about it: I bought this off eBay last year. An Epiphone Les Paul standard, in white. I got it because I'm a big Manic Street Preachers fan, and their lead singer/guitarist plays white Les Pauls, including in occasion a white standard (His usual live guitar is a custom, also white), and it was cheap at the time at £235. Due to me GAS-ing for yet another guitar, and lack of room, I have decided to part with this and another one I'm not really feeling. Could I get a little bit more because of it's finish
  12. My black Epiphone Dot, soon to recieve a set of Bare Knuckle Riff Raff pickups:
  13. If he is retiring that 355, then it'd be cool if on occasion he pulled out the Union Jack Sheraton, assuming he still has it. I can't see Noel using an SG as a main guitar, it just seems wrong. That said he has played one onstage before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBjmoTazy5E Maine Road, 1996. Someone said they never saw him playing an SG. There you go. Probably the only time I can think of where he has. He may just end up using the 345 or Trini Lopez he has in it's place. He already takes the 345 out on tour these days as a backup.
  14. I got my new pickups this week. I may take the opportunity to just have my Epiphone Dot gutted and have new electronics put in as well. If I had to do this myself using similar parts (not this kit specifically), would I have to be taking a drill to my Dot as well? I'm unsure as to the sizes of the parts of the stock guts of the guitar. This may be the difference between me rewiring the guitar myself, or getting someone else to do it. and I have never done ANY work on a guitar before, ever. To be honest I may end up paying for someone else to do it anyway.
  15. Maybe bvarsel likes the feel of the LP-100
  16. I'd like to see an Epiphone 339. I like my Dot, but sometimes I wonder of the body is a little too big. So, yeah, an Epi version of the ES 339/336. Maybe even in some other colours apart from sunburst/cherry, like a Gold top version: Yes, I want Jack Bauer's guitar
  17. Definitely a closer match. Really, although some people rate them as good guitars in their own right, the Supernova really was just expensive merch. I can't help thinking that if the Union Jack finish had come out first, it would have sold more, the supernova came out while Oasis were still hugely popular (Not to say they aren't still popular now, but still more so back then), coming not long after the Maine Road shows (when Noel debuted the Union Jack sheraton), it might have sold more. The elitist Sheraton is a much closer match for the one he used for Knebworth, and much of the Be
  18. I was reading another forum I post in on a semi-regular basis, and saw that someone on there is parting with one of these things: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Epiphone-Supernova-guitar-in-Black-VERY-RARE_W0QQitemZ260380698886QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV?hash=item260380698886&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1761|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 No reserve either. If I wasn't already planning to spend an insane amount of money getting new pickups for my black Dot, I might be tempted to bid on this. WHY MUST YOU TAUNT ME LIKE THIS?
  19. Only one amp: An Orange Tiny Terror head with an Orange 1 x 12 speaker cab. If I was able to wait a little bit longer, I'd have bought the combo version. I am very happy with what I have though. I also have a Line 6 Pocket Pod for when I use my guitar and need headphones.
  20. This is EXACTLY what I'm planning to do soon with my black Dot. I might get some GFS humbuckers for my white Les Paul as well while I'm at it. The pickups in that one are awful. The guitar feels OK though, it just sounds a bit crap. As for the "lazy" solder-free wiring method mentioned - isn't there the danger that the wires will work loose one day? I'd rather take a soldering iron to them myself.
  21. Hello, Long Time Reader, First Time Poster. I understand that it's a requirement for new posters to post pictures of their guitars, so here's my collection: From left to right: 2008 Epiphone Dot (the "E" fell off a few days ago) MIJ Fender Jazzmaster reissue 2008 Epiphone Les Paul Standard (In white - I bought this off eBay because I'd not seen an LP standard in white, I've checked the serial number so it's likely to be legit. I'd always wanted a white Les Paul, being a Manic Street Preachers fan) 2001 Epiphone Les Paul Standard (Black - the first decent guitar I
