  1. Paid $2100 CAD + tax (12%) for my Les Paul Traditional in 2011. Today a Standard 50's is $4000 +12% tax. When I was shopping for my first new "expensive" guitar in 1988 there was a Les Paul Standard for $1575+ tax (7%), and a Custom for $1800. I wanted a Les Paul but decided to buy my American Standard Strat tagged at $1000 +tax. The dealer ate the tax and threw in a pack of strings.  The same Strat was $600 +tax US in Michigan but I would have had to pay $ exchange and import duty so not sure if I would have saved much buying in the US.

    I recently bought a 2018

Is that rosewood? My 2012 must be pau ferro or baked maple as it is one piece but yours looks even lighter than mine.

  3. I've never had the opportunity to see a 1959 Les Paul to know if there were any imperfections but would guess that there would be as my fathers 51 ES300 has some. If there are I doubt that anyone would care. But today there are cheap guitars that don't have any noticable flaws so some people bash Gibson because they still do. There were no cheapo guitars that had better QC back then to compare to a Gibson so nobody cared about minor flaws . They wanted a Gibson so they bought one flaws and all. You just have to decide if it really matters or not. But bear in mind if you return it the next one may be no better or even worse.

  4. When I was a teen there was a building downtown that had a yellowish light box in front to ilumintae the front wall. Everyone called it "Purple City" cause if you looked into the light box for a minuite or two ,then when you look around every light you see would be a viberant  purple. Not good for the eyes I would think. Kids.

  5. We have a similar issue in our city. An out of town developer purchased our two old hospitals about 10 years ago with big plans for the site that never materialized.  Now it's a huge eyesore in our prime downtown waterfront area. The same thing happened with an old brewery in the same area but at least that one finally  got torn down . Probably only because it was near City Hall. They cut these scammers too much slack.

    Steel plant?  (or mill?)

Steel plant . I work for "Steel Making" (Dept.) in the B.O.S.P.     We do have hot , cold , and direct strip rolling mills also .

  7. I need to decide if I want to retire by Nov 1 as planed within the next few days . Need to give 2 months notice .  Not sure what to do . 34+ years is  enough at a dirty old steel plant for me but the pay will sure be hard to give up. We had record proffit sharing payout this year ($50,000) , over half my regular pay.
