  1. What has happened to the new Gibson website? They only show 2019 models. It was nice to be able to look at specs of older models.

  3. I don't know about the rest of you, but I have never seen a Gibson that has the dot over the 'i" blended in with the capital "G". If you compare it to the logo at the upper left hand corner of this forum page. The text format is not close. I could be wrong, but I am real skeptical.
  4. Here are a couple of sites that may help: www.acousticmusic.org www.vintageguitarandbass.com I've seen some others but i can't remember the addresses.
  5. In the 60's, I ran a Garrard turntable through a Pioneer SX-990 receiver with Pioneer CS-99 speakers. I purchased a Pioneer PL-10 manual turntable with a Shure M97ED cartridge in 1974 and still use it today. In fact JJ Cale's OKIE album is on it right now. I also have 3 Technics turntables; SL-3 belt drive linear tracking, SL-5 direct drive linear tracking, SL-B210 belt drive semi-auto. I currently run the PL-10 and the SL-5 through a Sony STR-V7 receiver that is vintage 1978 and i got it for $20 at a pawn shop. This receiver is the size of a micro wave oven and just as heavy. My current speakers are Monitor Audio Silver Series. My record collection is about 700 strong and is mostly 60's and 70's rock. I guess I was a hippie. In the 70's i worked for a record and tape distributor, so I have a lot of promo and demo pressings. I listen to vinyl more than any other medium.
  6. I did this on my ES339. when I removed the original studs, they were already bent.

    I have a 2003 Fender Custom Esquire GT MIK that has a set neck with rosewood fret board and jumbo frets. It reminds me of my 1969 SG Standard that i use to own. Wish I still had that. So yes, a set neck would work on a Tele.
  8. The kid is GREAT! Sure he's not related to Johnny Winter?
  9. Another option instead of shrink tubing, is fuel line for model aircraft engines. It will probably out live the guitar and has some cushioning to it.
  10. That is a young Albert Lee on Tele with Clapton.
  11. Cool Guitar! I bought a SG Standard in 1969 s/n 544789 and it was a great guitar. I wish i still had it. I have the original Gibson Zone 2 June 1, 1968 Suggested Retail Price List and it shows the SG Special $250. I paid $340 for mine and the Faultless case was $73. Your pick guard is period correct, but the pick ups were P90's. The tuners were 3 inline and the vibrato is correct. The only difference between the Special vibrato that I see is the Standard had the Maestro cover. Enjoy your new beloved toy!

    static crackle

    I've had mine for a year and it still does it, especially along the neck. I don't know if it is the wood or what. I have used a dryer softening sheet on the pick guard and it does help. I have even removed the pick guard and tried it without it and it still does have static crackle. I am beginning to wonder if it is the electronics. Hopefully someone can give us a legitimate solution.
  13. There is a guy down on South Santa Fe in Littleton that does good work. I bought a new ES-339 and had him do a setup on it. You could also try Old Town Pickin' Parlor in Arvada. Colorado Guitar Company 6229 S. Santa Fe Littleton, CO 80120 303-730-3609 Tues-Sat 10-6
  14. Don't forget about Buffalo Springfield. Neil Young, Stephen Stills, and Richie Furay. Another band that spawned 2 greats was The Paul Butterfield Band with Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop.
  15. I bought one of these back in '90 or '91 and it came from Gibson with EMG pick ups installed. I wish I still had it, the color was awesome. I sold it to a guy that I worked with and he probably still has it. I should look him up.
