[Epiphone's EJ212 jumbo 12-string]

I just picked up and EJ-212CE VS Serial no. GG07010378. I have read that they were made between 94 and 99. Mine may be a Masterbuilt according to one set of info I read. The rosewood on the fretboard is the same as my'65 Elitist Casino.

It needs new strings and a slight adjustment to the neck but other than that it's in fine shape. Some of the design on the pick guard has been scrubbed off. The serial No. without the GG , according to the guitar dater project, says it's USA made. Not much info out there and I'm interested in any and all info I can get. I believe I got a good deal on it at $350.00 CDN with HSC. Any and all information appreciated.

Sweet! You made out like a bandit with that deal. Mine was almost twice (in USD) what you paid. Thanks for posting. From what I can tell, we EJ 212 owners are a pretty exclusive club.

 

I was talking to my local guitar shop owner and he keeps all his catalogues so we are going to see if we can get more info on the EJ212. I did happen to see an EJ212 in New Brunswick for $650.00 CDN.

nice find! don't see too many of those. It isn't USA made though and not a Masterbilt. Epiphone doesn't make anything in the U.S. and the Masterbilt line didn't come out until 2004.

 

 

 

According to a reply I got from Gibson it was made in January, 2007 and one source said GG was a "qingdao guitar". The listing for the guitar does not appear in any catalogue from the period but I did find that they are listed on Musicians Friends website as not available. I would suspect that it may have been a somewhat recent limited production.

Great pickup, Dave! Those Epi 12ers sure are pretty. I got really hooked on 12-strings, and still am. I wanted something a little thicker sounding than my old 1970s Epi 12. Picked up a Takamine. Enjoyed it for a while, just enough so that I wanted a really nice 12. And to me and my research, that means Guild. Got a great deal on the JF30-12 pictured below. Corona-built. Gotta have that ebony fretboard! Unbraced arched lam back. Undersaddle pickup. Love this thing. Later I grabbed a deal on what I consider the ultimate 12 - Guild F412. Gorgeous... Action was good, but the saddle was a bit low. I had the pin slots ramped to get better break angle and volume. Still didn't quite bond with that baby, so sold it. This JF30-12 is just too good....

 

 

 

I have to say Guild makes fine guitars. I got the Epi 12 because it's a hard one to find. I play mostly electric and for a 12 string I have a Hagstrom Viking Deluxe 12. They are really an underrated guitar. I have several Hags and like them all.
