Blazer I have the gibson les paul vintage mahogney studio which is semi hollow with nitro finish and burstbucker pro pickups.
After i got the sg 3 i was playing the studio less and less. Now my ear has adjusted to the "57" pickups the burstbuckers seem to sound thinner and a little harsh at times.
I always thought the burstbuckers were the best pickups now i am kinda hooked on the "57"s.
I 'd like to sell the studio and use that money to fund a sg 61 reissue, or maybe the new 50 aniversity sg with the 57's in it....It is only advailable in black though and i hate black guitars..Wish they would make them with a nitro finish or light natural finish.
I live in a condo so I have the line 6 spider 4 75 watt amp...
Hey Tom
Thanks for the links the first is identical to mine.I agree with regards to the 57's but I've always had a soft spot for for the Les Paul Gol Top and the P90's.It should be a good contrast between the two, that would give each one thier own purpose. My first choice for the SG 3 was cherry like yours but could only get Black.I'm very happy with it now though.

I've got a SG 3 with three PAF 57's and in Ebony and have had four Marshalls(8080 Valvtronics,JCM DSL401,JCM 900,JCM 800) and they all rocked the SG but I found they were very limited so after lots of reseach I bought a Fender HOTROD DEVILLE 4x10 combo which is 60 tube watts and this thing is amazing for blues, jazz and I bought a Vox Big Ben Overdrive pedal which run a tube inside and you get a great British Marshall/Vox overdrive.

Blazer thats the thing about finding the right tone..One guitarist said "I just decided this was the tone i had and started to work with it". Sometimes that lust can distract me from the playing i need to do to get better. Still, lol, like to add a 61 reissue or a sg custom and get rid of my studio...But , the sg 3 has some great tones, its a total rock machine..The bridge pickup is smoking sometimes i play it for days, lol.
later
How did you like your studio I just ordered a Gibson Les Paul Studio 50's Tribute limited run I thought they were sold out but Gibson made a few more available, mines a gold top .I've always played my SG3 through all tube Marshalls but recently purchased a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4x10 and it blows the Marshall away with the SG 3.
Whats everyone play their SG 3's through?????

Yeah blazer i thought about putting a set of vintage caps and upgrading controls on mine but it sounds good and i am afraid if i mess around it I might muck it up. Ebay actually has the upgrade under sg 3 guitars and its 145.00 but some say there is little to no difference depending on your ears.
The sg 3 and sg custom are very under-rated in my opinion..There is a black sg 3 on ebay now for 1500.00..Thats a lot of bang for the buck i think.
P.S. nice sg 3 there alpha, but that photo website dragged my computer to a virus check website..
Couldn't find it on Ebay I guess it's over or sold.I will post some better pics but the gold really pops in the ebony.

Here's a pic of mine.I was thinking of installing two push pull pots one 500 vol and one 300 tone to do the job of 4 pots and then a replacing the 6 way with a 3 way but my guitar teck said I'd **** up the tone.He probley is right because the different tones are amazing.

Hey Forum
I just saw this forum and was pleasently surpriced to see a forum on my beloved SG 3.I have a 2007 Gibson SG 3 in Ebony with three gold PAF 57's I've had since new.The tones you can get out of this guitar are amazing and with the looks of a 61 are amazing expecially the antique binding on the neck. The six way switch is cool but I'd prefer the 3 way and 1 more vol. and tone. but would never change it.
This ones a keeper

I could be wrong but I thought the guitar of the week were three single coil pickups mine is three 57 classic humbuckers, but it's possable.

Just got through to Gibson on the phone and they were very helpful, when he inputed the serial # my SG3 came as 2007.Does anyone know why my serial is E xxx with no made in USA and others have a longer # with no spaces and MADE IN USA stamped in it.

Just purchased my SG-3 slightly used with the plastic still on it, it has 3 gold 57's humbuckers and saw a very weird thing the serial # on the back of the headstock has the letter E followed by a long space then 3 numbers and is minus the made in usa stamp.I see on the gibson web sited that signature models are done this way and saw another new SG-3 with the normal serial #and USA stamp.Does anyone know why it has this type of serial #
Thanks
