  1. So a couple of weekends ago, I traded my little tube Vox for a Vox VTX20 modeling amp. What I liked is the light weight. It had a little 8" speaker. For what is was, it sounded OK. BUT... I just couldn't find that sound... so I went back tonight and returned it towards a used Fender basebreaker 15. Yea, that's the sound I was looking for and just couldn't get it in that little Vox no matter what setting I tried. Night and day.... for what it was it was ok... but the basebreaker 15 has a really bad A$$ sound to it. Rich and has depth. I was up in the air, blues JR or this and I went with this. Anyone have one, any preference between a basebreaker and a blues Jr.
  2. Yea, I'm sort of the same... he is amazing on guitar, sings fine... but none of his original work really grabs me... I don't really know why...
  3. Yea, so I don't know anything about that stuff, beyond me.... that's sort of why I never paid much attention to these.. looked too complicated. But I've figured out how to use the different amps, but I'm mostly using the fender twin, tube turned on, some gain and reverb. It sounds OK. Not bad for a little 8" speaker. I may end up keeping it. Yea, it has a pre amp tube, they call it a hybrid....
  4. I was going to get a Blues Jr., but then I checked out a baseman... both sound great... but the suckers are like 30+ lb. I already have a big twin, so I was looking for something smaller and light so I picked up a VOX valtronix. I'm playing my SG on it, getting used to all this modeling crap (can't I just have knobs) I'm still up in the air, if I'm going to keep it. It got good reviews... anyone else using one of these...
  5. Sharp fret ends could be due to a dry fretboard. (again, sitting in a box for 4 years) Hose it down with Old English furniture polish with almond oil... you can get that a Target and such. Lay it thick so the whole fretboard is covered in foam. let it soak in a few minutes before removing. That's some good stuff...
  6. If you purchased a 2014 model, it's been sitting in a box close to 4 years. I'm sure it would need new strings / setup after sitting that long. I'd take it in and have a good setup done.
  7. I've got a 2016 Faded SG special T. I don' know about best ever, they have 50 so years of SG's. But I really like mine, just put a bitsby B-5 with Chet Atkins handle... it's pretty bad a$$, great tone, easy play and light.

    show your sg

I just added a bigsby and Chet Atkins swing arm.... not sure how to get these to show, but here's the link... also, putting strings on a B-5 is a *****, need 4 hands. They need longer string posts., my b-30 didn't seem nearly as hard... http://s1320.photobucket.com/user/raylfitch/library/?view=recent
  9. Some people use sleep machines... you can buy these, they are white noise, basically a loop of recordings like rain, ochan waves, stuff like that. I think there are also some phone apps available.
  10. For the fretboard, hit it with Old English furniture polish with almond oil. You can get it anywhere like target and such. Let it soak a few minutes before removing. That stuff is great, use it on my motorcycle too...
  11. Yea, you're right... has a batwing... but I think it looks pretty bad ads... sucker's got some mojo.... I still like it...
  12. Loosing interest, someone swapped out the original tuners and pups. Not sure why....
  13. So, if I beat them down to 2 k even. Then traded my SG special, I could have something going. So I figure, I'm 55 now. If I live another 20 years, that's 240 months. That comes down to about $ 6.60 a month, or 22 cents a day... an 10 years from now, that .22 will really real like 10 cents... would you buy a SG for 22 cents a day.... or like 7 bucks a month.... seems cheap when you think of it that way.... Also, I played it... pretty bada$$

  15. Can't complain this to an American standard, but overall it was OK. and at a little over a fin, not bad at all...
