The old man squinted through the cigarette smoke, adjusted his glasses, and then leaned in to make adjustments to the archaic instrument on the work bench before him.
“Granda, what are ye working on this long day?” little Liam queried from the doorway.
“Heh. Not sure, lad. I heve a good idear, but it’s praheps too soon to tell.”
He tinkered a way for a bit, and the young boy watched from the portal. After a bit, the old man beckoned, “Come on in, laddie. Ye don’t have to shy away so.”
“I dunno, Granda. Herself says eff I hang about with you, I could get blown up to high heaven.”
“Ráiméis, I heven’t hed any such explosions here in me shop for many a month. Come on in, boyo.”
The boy entered and watched intently from the old man’s elbow.
“It’s very old,” he remarked.“Aye, ‘tis. The old ones, the Highlanders, used instruments such as these, to do dark and mysterious things.”
The boy nodded solemnly.
“I’m nearly certain, thes’s what they called an ‘Xeplorer’ beck in the dey. It was used to aid in alchemy, and the transference of this o’er here to that o’er there.”
“Tis a thing of Gods then, surely.”
“Nay. Only mystical men and high-aspiring wizards. They sed thet this Xeplorer was part of the Holy Trinity, and if ye hed it along with the ‘Els Paul’ and something called eh ‘Elfying vee’, ye could do wondrous things!”
“Heve ye ever seen nor touched one of them other things, Granda?”
“Aye, lad. Sawr an Els Paul once, up by Clonmany. And a traveling magician I met by Bridge of Orchy, he hed what he called the Elfying Vee. Never put ‘em all together though.”
“May chance we take the caravan, and go try and marry ‘em up then?”
The old man shook his head warily. “No lad. Best we leave such things up to better men than you and I.”
He thought on that for a bit, and then struck a match on the wooden workbench surface. He lit another Craven A, and spoke again finally.
“Let’s us leave such things up to mystical men, skilled in the dark arts and sciences.”
He put away the Xeplorer then, and cleaned up his work bench.“Right! Are ye up for a wee walkabout with this old man, and mebbe a nibble and a pint at Grace Neill's?”
“Aye!”
“So off we go then.”
The shop door slammed behind them in their egress, and the shop was quiet for a number of minutes. Dust motes floated across sunbeams streaming in thru crevasses in the weathered shutters.
In a tall cabinet, the Xeplorer turned onto its side with a metallic clunk, and a triad of musical octaves emanated from within.
Ancient harmonies formed, swelled, and then faded. In the dim light, the cabinet handle slowly turned from tarnished iron to brilliant gold, and then the shop became quiet and still.
😬
thank you for this..I dont have so much free time to read through all the blubberish sadly...maybe some day I will

cause pickups on my les paul custom sound amazing, they sound a little bit like buzzsaw.....different than standard lp....
so maybe these sound even more buzzsawy that I love....
i am concerned about the shape...where will my right hand rest....because the edge of the guitar is too high, compared to fender of LP
and then there is case size..lol...but they are very rare....there are lots of LP, but explorers are really rare to find used

how is the sound? similar to les paul or does it have specific sound? THis one has dirty fingers installed by default...

i wonder how good is explorer, it is hard to handle etc...?
Because of its shape...I play predominately sitting on a guitar chair....
I love my LEs Pauls and Fender strat...
here is the pic of the explorer I want to buy

They are far less popular. That's one factor. Though I love the look of them; much more than the single cuts. Rabs also likes these. Price? I've seen them offered from time to time at prices similar to regular STDs, but they can hang around a while. Eventually they sell.
These with the bling (carved tops, binding etc) you dont see so often. More common are the cheaper basic slab models (Specials). I'd consider one seriously if I found one I liked.
this one is quoted at 1260 USD....I think it is a good price? I wonder how the frets are and if you need to refret it, that would also cost a lot
-
this is 2006 year DC, what price should it be to be a steal...is it worth less than standard lp?
-
but the guitar will be stored in cases....so can humidity affect them? I mean it is normall room in my house....but unheated during the winter....
-
I have now 4 guitars, 3 LP and one stratocaster
I used to stacke all cases on top of each other...is that safe? I am concerned about latest custom I have.....
the Standard LP 2015 has a rugged case....and fender strat also....but I am not sure about custom LP cases....
Also can you keep them in unheated room during winter? Will nitro crack? I am traveling away so I will keep them in room most probably without heating.....the temperatures will heat most probably around 5 celcius
-
thisi s the guitar....it hanged like that for few years I guess in old guy´s appartment
i have readt that the wrong material on guitar holder can eat away nitro.....so I am not sure if it ate away nitro or it put a layer of its own on guitar
I took the sticker off of course
-
uh i am afraid to do it with wd40....it is GIBSON CUSTOM....
So you are saying there is no damage in nitro and in fact the soft pads on guitar wall arm kind f left it residue?
I bought this a while ago for my car...is that the same thing?

Of the two, the Custom Shop '58 Reissue VOS is worth more.
In my opinion, the one you really want, the LP Custom Black Beauty is priced just about right, if it's in really splendid condition.
The Custom Shop jobbie is priced lower than normal at 3200 Euros.
(They go for a thousand more than that, on Reverb anyway.)
Maybe it's not in such great shape.
Or the seller just wants to be rid of it.
Either way, you should get the one that you really want, and not worry about getting a deal on something you don't particularly crave.
😛BB go for 4000 eur on reverb....I doubt that....
the seller was 80 yo....his wife bought it for him when he was 70 yo....and he cant play it because the neck is too narrow or something and probaly his artritic condition is the reason......the guitar never left his flat....the only damagd is a little blemish where the wall hanger holds the guitar near the headstock and that was pretty much all...
it was never gigged....well taken care off, mint frets...mint case.....i think I was really lucky.....
is there a way you can polish that blemish out on nitro? I mean it is there if you look closely.....but it does not bother me.....
note to self....always buy guitar from 80 yo people....

I am thinking of buying a LP custom 2012 in very good condition black beauty for 3200 eur.....
But there is another offer Customshop 58 Reissue VOS for same price....
what is worth more? I presume 58? ANd for how many percent?
Basically I just want a black beauty...it looks the most beautiful guitar to me ever...
The new one is 4500 eur, and I got offer for 2012 for 3200 eur....seller does not want to go lower

Yes it is 100 times better.
By Sgt Prepper logic this means that the seller thinks the guitar should be 100x more expensive and the buyer should be interested to pay 100x more for it....very interesting

You got that right. We are still waiting for the thrilling conclusion to the R8 dilemma.
how you are going to ruin this topic Mr SGT Prepper ...start talking about your dog getting a fresh batch of flees? Or your crack head neighbour screaming in his sleep?

god save me from this topic...bunch of ladies rambling about anything besides gibson guitar...and I created this....it is like Dr Frankenstein creating monster that did not obey any rules...and started to think with its own brainzzz
