  1. Thanks, everyone! I still have an hour to go on acclimating here. I feel like a 5 year old waiting to open Christmas presents!
  2. Hope this question is in the right place. I have a DSL40c. Yes, it's quite a big amp for someone who only plays at home these days, but I bought it for it's features. Some people are telling me it needs an attenuator to drive the tubes properly, but I'm on the fence about this. Firstly, I have it on the 20W setting. Next, my thoughts are these: 1. Supposedly the DSL40 and DSL100 have an improved pre-amp layout that gets those tubes driving at a lower level. 2. This is a 2 channel amp and each channel has it's own gain and volume. So it seems to me you can raise the gain and lower the volume, or vice versa. 3. It can sound a bit better when it's cranking hard but it isn't such a greater improvement that I feel it justifies spending another $500 or so for a Rockcrusher or similar attenuator. I admit I was looking at the Jet City Jennuator over at MF the past couple of days because it's only $150 right now with the sale. And it seems to be pretty well received by those who own it. Or I could go for the Rockcrusher over at SW because it can be financed super cheaply with no interest. So what do other owners of this amp think?
  3. Thanks, Kelly! NW Ohio near Bowling Green. My new SG is here! Since it has to acclimate in the packing box due to cold temps I posted Sweetwater's pics over in the SG forum.
  4. It's here! FedEx arrived before I was even awake this morning. I can't remember them ever being here by 8:30am. I heard my crazy guard dog going ballistic and woke up knowing there must be a new shiny Gibson at my door. Unfortunately it is very cold here this morning so I am leaving it boxed to acclimate (almost makes you want to cry, doesn't it?). In the meantime here are the pics from Sweetwater. Why is one pic in here twice when I only see one attachment for it listed in my text? I have no idea or I would edit it out. Sorry!

    P90 question

I don't (yet) have a Gibson with P90s, but I am a fan of P90s and feel Gibson's are among the cream of the crop. They really do capture that vintage sound better than some of the boutique brands IMO. I actually used Gibson P90s to upgrade a Chinese guitar and can't think of any good reason someone would do the other way around like they did with yours. I hate to think someone wanted to make money selling the guitar (with replacements) and then selling the pickups separately, but that may be the case. As a side note, I've been looking hard at that 2017 LP Tribute special edition with the P90s at Zzounds/AMS. I was hoping for a Black Friday discount but so far they are telling me there won't be one :(
  6. I sure hope OSU does! After the Iowa game though you just don't know what to think. They also still need to tighten things up (too many penalties, special teams issues, fumbles/interceptions). Yet I feel they have both some of most explosive offense and defense in college football. I'm originally from Cleveland but have lived in NW Ohio for more of my life at this point. I graduated from high school in 86 and went to Bowling Green for college. I did spend a year in your area when I was teaching at a school in there. 1991-92 school year but was laid off at the end of the year due to financial problems in the school district. That is when I migrated back to NW Ohio and have stayed here since. Oh, put my guitars in my signature so anyone interested can see what they are.
  7. Congrats! I just bought a new SG from Sweetwater, too.
  8. Hi, new to the forum. Yesterday I bought a 2017 SG Standard HP in cherryburst and am expecting it Friday. It will be my second Gibson, but I haven't had one for 21 years. Way back in 1983 when I was 15 I bought my second guitar: an alpine white SG special with the chainsaw case. However, in 1997, my good-for-nothing (soon-to-be-ex) husband took it to a pawn shop and hocked it while I was at work. With the financial situation he had put me in by refusing to work and spending every cent I made I wasn't exactly in a position to get a new one for a long time. Wow, what a soap opera, huh? Anyway, I have bought a few guitars over the years although I'm not sure if I'm allowed to talk about those here? One was an Epi G-400 so that one is probably allowed I think part of me was afraid to get another Gibson but now I'm at a point in my life where I'm 99.9% sure I won't be getting remarried I am having a hard time waiting until Friday! I have to say these 2017 models are very impressive with the hardware changes.
