smcalvin Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Hello, I've got a solid Epi Les Paul electric with SN: 9111318 on a sticker on the back of the headstock. http://www.guitardaterproject.org reports: Your guitar was made in Korea November c.1999 Production Number: 1318 I know this isn't true - I bought the guitar in the late 70's or early 80's. I looked at http://www.themusiczoo.com/blog/2011/gibson-and-epiphone-guitars-serial-number-guide/ and according to that, none of these had 7 digit serials. I can't find anything that references Epis with 7 digit serial numbers so I haven't a clue what it is that I have. It plays extremely well and holds tune for very long periods of time. I suspect it was one of the models made in Japan that have very little, if any, information on them. Can someone tell me where to go (be gentle... ;-) ) to find out what the devil I really have, when it was made, where, etc?
smcalvin Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Guitardater is wrong - like so many times......... Tere have NO Epi LesPauls been made in the 70s and the beginning 80s Epi started LP production in the late 80s (88-89) the LP shaped numbered models started around 86 Your guitar was made Nov 89 at the Korean Samick factory the smaller 'open book' type headstock was only made at that time the serial# reads like 9=Year = 89 11=Month = Nov 1318= batch/production# Ok, I'll take your word on it. I'm probably having a flashback or something ;-) So it's just a standard model then I "assume". Thanks...
smcalvin Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Yes, Standard read more here... http://www.epiphone.com/History.aspx Thank you so much - I was not getting anywhere finding anything out about it until now. GREATLY appreciated.
smcalvin Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Get even more information about epiphone here http://epiphonewiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page Thanks again - more reading to do later when there's zero on the boob-tube. ;) I'd been to the wiki before but hadn't a clue what model it was. Now that I know it's an '89 Standard I can poke around a bit more. I must have missed the site that documented the 7 digit SN's but will probably find it easily now armed with your information.
