Acoustic Epiphone Info Request

Recommended Posts

I posted this in the identification forum, but thought this may get more traffic... thanks in advance for any info you may be able to offer.

I have been pretty much unsuccessful finding anything on this guitar, short of one or two posts from others several years ago who also had acoustics somewhat similar to mine. In the end, I wasn't able to discern much so maybe someone here can help shed a bit of light. History is that my grandmother purchased it some time ago from a local shop (who apparently failed to keep perfect records, as they were clueless) for my grandfather... it still has the tags on it from when they purchased it, so needless to say it didn't see any action. Anyhow, it's mine now, and I am interested in seeing what I can learn about it, and hope to learn to play a bit as well... tag inside says PR 325 with a 10 digit serial number which looks to begin with "88," or "83," heck, could even say "33," but I doubt it...(8810000072) it didn't come up in the serial checker I found online, and has no letter prefix, nor "Made in Korea" on the tag inside. here are some photos; thanks in advance!!! Carl

Thanks for the feedback Hombre... any thoughts or opinions on quality of the series, or any other pertinent information? As I stated earlier, I am wanting to learn to play, and have seen people talking about playability of different instruments; is it a good learning guitar or is there something that might suit me better? Sorry about all the questions, I'm trying to absorb as much info as possible.

Playability in terms of neck shape, nut width, string spacing at the bridge and such is all individual preference. What works for me might drive you nuts. You will figure it out though. It is all part of the learning process.

I agree with the others - whether it's a "good" guitar or not is largely a matter of personal preference. However I want to add the note that Samick guitars (in my experience) are of outstanding quality. I've owned 2, an Epi EJ-200 about 10 years ago that was made by Samick Korea, and a new EJ-200ce that was made only 6 months ago at Samick in Indonesia. The quality of build is great, and there is a lot of attention to detail. Additionally, I worked in a music store in a local mall about 20 years ago that sold Samick brand pianos, and the quality was very high and they were easy to sell. Samick also makes Baldwin pianos (I don't know if it's all, or some) for Gibson USA. Samick factory plus Gibson quality control means it's hard to find a loser.
