DF-234
when i walked into the store to get my dark fire it was already waiting for me on the front counter opened up the case and was overwelmed by the smell! Not in a bad way either its simply amazing my whole room now has a sort of chapstick smell i love it lol any idea on what this is from? I was thinking maybe something they used on the neck but now im thinking maybe the nitro finish or w/e
wrecknballron
Dude... I totally thought the same thing. It is usually finish related, however, it might be the case lining. Whatever it is, it is the sweetest smell eva'!!! RG=d>
elantric
Thats Nitrocellulose lacquer - same stuff used on vintage instrument finishes 1900-1985, and a huge reason i ordered a dark fire. It fell out of use in the Mid 1980's due to EPA issues, and its tendency to crack under temperature extremes. But its the same stuff used on a real 1959 LP. By contrast most guitars built today use a polyurethane finish - its sturdier but feels "plasticy" I prefer the feel and sound of nitro!

BreeeZe_
i just hope my "deadly toxic" smell sticks around cuz i love it lol 5th of December I bought my R7 which also smell like that. Really love the smell and now after 2 weeks still smells strong :) I think mine even hung in the shop for a few weeks also. So don't worry, the smell will stick around for a while. Alouf
The nitro smell will last a good 3 or 4 month if the guitar is stored in open air, or up to a year if stored in it's case.
