Dark fire vs Gibson HD.6X-Pro

The Dark Fire has individual pickups for each string but can it output them via 6 channels like the Gibson HD.6X-Pro which produces a fantastic recorded sound (almost like two guitars playing together)? I wouldn't think any analog attempt would be possible based on the physical connections to the guitar (trs jack only). However if a digital signal was passed from the guitar to the box then this might be possible. Can someone comment on this?

Yes, it will be able to send individual strings. Check the video on Harmony central. You see inputs for each individual string with the RIP.

Edit: Here is the link: http://www.harmony-central.com/theater/video/gibson-darkfire/gibsondarkfire_video.html

Also, they probably pass the information along the TRS jack via modulation or muxing or some other clever way.

The Dark Fire transmits the piezo output of each individaul string as an analogue multiplexed signal through the staddard TRS cable supplied. However this signal (6 individual strings) is useless unless the RIP is connected where it can be demultiplexed and output as six seperate signals. I think this signal is output in digital form via the firewire and also to the hex connector where it can be used to contol a MIDI device.

So for Dark fire the signal starts analogue is converted to digital by the RIP sent to the computer where it is processed digitally by your music software where it is eventually converted back to analogue for output you can listen to.

For the HD6 the signal is output in digital from the guitar therefore missing out one stage of conversion compared to the DF.

So DF + RIP = same capability as HD6 concerning seperation of indivdual string signal from piezo source.
