rickyc
I have a Chet Atkins CE, a Larrivee OM-9, and a Kirk Sand nylon that I inherited when my son passed away last year. I know nothing about acoustic or nylon instruments. What kind/size of strings should I put on the Larrivee and what should I put on the two nylons? Also, I understand I can't just plug these into my Fender Deluxe Reverb. I guess it won't hurt it but the sound won't be right. The amp has regular and hi-gain plugs. Which should I use? If I have to buy an acoustic amp can you give me some recommendations for a reasonable one for just sitting at home and "noodling"? I won't be giving stage concerts:-) I am 78 and a novice but want to try these great guitars. [/font]
capmaster
Hello Ricky, first I want to express my deepest sympathy for having lost your son so early. I can suppose that you want to make his precious instruments sound like you know he would have done. Assuming you live in the USA, I provide a few useful links below. These are no certain recommendations to buy there, and you might get the related products at many other dealers, too. As a classical nylon string set on a budget can be recommended I think: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EJ27N/ and for higher demands: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EJ45/ For the beginning I think it is best to use steel strings feeling a bit softer to the fingertips why I suggest these: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MFX675/ Any electric guitar amplifier will produce a sound that lacks treble. If you want to try despite of it, you should use the input that matches guitars and your situation best, and I think that the lower gain jack will do. However, when thinking about an acoustic amp which I suggest, since your guitars are very fine ones, I don't think that mediocre amps will be sufficient. This one provides a clear and natural tone: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LoudboxMini/ and can be ordered there as a package for the same price - just couldn't believe it at first glance - with microphone, microphone stand and microphone cable included: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LoudBoxMiniPK/ I hope this helps. With best regards, capmaster
