Hi everyone, I've got a humbucker with a black stamp that says patent applied for I bought in the early 90's and installed it on a old yamaha, how can I id the year or know if it's real?

You would probably have to open it up. That might not be so bad because it looks like the solder has already been tampered with before so you probably won't do much to alter the value. Once you get it open you can compare what you see in there to pictures of old pickups. An old pick up with a decal like that would normally be from the late 50s or early 60s if it is real. Later versions of real PAF's have a patent number stamped into the base plate.
