L5 Studio

Dark single bound vs white/black/white multi-bound. Otherwise still an L5 in construction.

I guess they were cheaper then, but the cheapest L5 I ever saw was a butchered acoustic model

I bought for $2500 with sawn through braces to mount pickups.

I think I saw a L5 Studio for $3800 back when you could get a single pickup Wes Montgomery for $4800.

L5 was always my grail guitar. The Studio couldn't have been all that much cheaper to produce for Gibson.

The money is in the top plate.

I thought the Studio versions were ugly.

I recall seeing a L5 studio and a L5 signature some time ago in NYC at Manny's Music Store. The studio looked a little cheap for my taste and I didn't try it out. But I did get a chance to play the signature L5 which was a smaller version of the regular L5. I was having some concerns about the regular L5 size. Eventually, I got a chance to try a regular L5 in person and I was hooked. I eventually purchased a custom L5 (Wes Montgomery) at L&M for $5K and forgot about the signature. I loved the size though, but the problem was it didn't have the "deep" mellow, Wes Montgomery sound that I love.
