Johnnysixtoes
Get the serial number and some pictures from the seller and check back with us! Don't buy it until you know for sure. I can make a studio say "special" for 10 bucks.
Ale84
I checked the serial number and it's a 2012 guitar and pictures seem great but the missing neck binding and the back of the body make me doubtful on the purchase
Johnnysixtoes
Is it missing or was it never installed? If the binding was never there it seems to me like its a fake. What is he selling it for?
Johnnysixtoes
I don't even see yellow satin as a color option on the 2012 les Paul special. I'll keep checking.
stein
There have been a lot of variations Gibson has made under the badge "special"- and there were some without binding. They seem to use the term loosely. We might tend to think of the traditional Special as meaning flat-top 2 P-90's with binding, but as we see, there have been lots of variations that most would not think of as being a traditional Special. I bring that up to say, that at the same time, someone could very well refer to a guitar as a Special when Gibson calls it something else. I would not go by "body carve and no binding" as it being a fake. Gibson has made plenty of these. If you are concerned about it being a Gibson, pics! Other than that, whatever dollar value it will have will be determined by what it is, not what they or we call it.
