There have been a lot of variations Gibson has made under the badge "special"- and there were some without binding.

They seem to use the term loosely.

We might tend to think of the traditional Special as meaning flat-top 2 P-90's with binding, but as we see, there have been lots of variations that most would not think of as being a traditional Special. I bring that up to say, that at the same time, someone could very well refer to a guitar as a Special when Gibson calls it something else.

I would not go by "body carve and no binding" as it being a fake. Gibson has made plenty of these.

If you are concerned about it being a Gibson, pics! Other than that, whatever dollar value it will have will be determined by what it is, not what they or we call it.
