ncfiretiger
anyone know of a Gibson luthier that has done this? wanting to convert a Tennessean to a 12 string and keep the 1.75 in. nut.
Ignatius
Hey ncfiretiger-- Unless I am very much mistaken, I think the bigger problem is not the nut size but the (in)ability of that neck to endure almost double the tension required of twelve strings. Also, I would wonder how the body would endure it as well. I could be way off on this, but when hollowbodies can be damaged just by tuning too sharp, I don't even want to imagine what the tension of six extra strings (even light ones) could do to a guitar like that. ncfiretiger
Ignatius - you are right in your concerns. still, after examining several 12 string hollow bodies, i think the neck will be fine IF i can find one with a headstock that will take an additional 6 tuners. hollowbodies can/are reinforced and a competent luthier should be able to do this. if there is a way to get a wider neck on an ES335-12, i would consider it. i think those were 1 and 9/16. very small for 12 strings (IMHO)
