Brookfielder
I posted this one under Gibson Electrics, then spotted this forum. So here is a duplicate post! In the process of "restoring" my '67 Melody Maker, I am deciding whether or not to use the pickups that were installed in it by the previous butcher who owned it. One is a common PAF style and the other is more interesting. The interesting one caught the attention of a guitar tech who looked at the guitar once and offered his services in exchange for the pickup. From the tone of his voice and the glint in his eye I suspected I had something cool here. I haven't been able to quickly fins a pickup that looks like this in a simple online search. Can anyone tell me exactly what this is? The metal housing of the pickup measures 2-9/16" x 1-1/8" x 9/16". Take a look: http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab194/brookfielder/IMG_6236.jpg http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab194/brookfielder/IMG_6240.jpg
Gibson Gear01
Brookfielder, The pickup is a Mini-Humbucker that likely came from an early 70's Les Paul Deluxe. They are not particularly sought after in the vintage market, but to someone who is restoring a LP Deluxe with embossed mini-humbuckers, it would be a little hard to find. Brookfielder
I would think then that it would be a fine bridge position pickup for my project. The original single coil pickups disappeared back in the '70s, so I thought I'd put this one in the bridge position and a white Evans pickup from my Strat in the neck position. At least that would look closer to an appropriate pickup than the PAF that is in there now! http://www.synapticsystems.com/studios/evans/images/colors.jpg
