I'm sure if you did an internet search you could find some good articles on the subject. I used to have a free program called "studio buddy" that provided basics.

 

Anyway, a good starting point is to point the mic towards one of the actual speakers just off center of the middle. It's best to experiment as mic placement makes a big difference. With one mic that is where I would start.

Just start recording and playing to get the right levels. There is no manual of exact settings or placement. To get good at it requires trial and error.

The basics are watching the levels and being able to get the sound live in acceptable parameters to then tweak it. If the initial input is to high or to low it is garbage,
