MusicbyFirelight
Had a rare treat yesterday... I had an hour or so to spare near a cluster of pawn shops in Toronto I like to sniff around in -- found a 19teens Banjolin and spent some time with it. Name on the headstock was "Paragon", and the ID marks inside had Clifford Essex, 1915, with a street address in London, UK. Extraordinarily heavy -- most of the weight in the (stainless? silver?) resonator on the back. This little treasure is a work of art -- inlaid MOP all over, inlaid woods, heavy ivory banding, even on the inside back where you'd never see it but would know it was there. A fine little piece of history and craftsmanship. Just sharing an OMG moment.... I can share more details if anyone's interested in it..
