Knuckles25
Looking to buy a Gibson ES-335. Just wondering what the $500 difference is between these two models. Is it the gloss? The grover tuners vs the vintage tulip tuners? The wood? And what does this difference mean? If I buy a satin finish, what am I missing from the dot plain top and is it worth it? I've demo'd the satin and love it; just wondering what the extra cash actually goes towards and if I would regret not going the extra mile. Here are links to the two: Satin Finish http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/...itar?sku=517751 Dot Plain Top http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/...nish?sku=518963 Thanks in advance. eljay
besides the gloss finish on the body, the dot plain top will have a bound neck. i bought a satin about a year ago and i've been very pleased with it. no frills, but same pups as higher end models, and, afaik, same electronics and body construction. good luck with your decision! jmjohnson
I had an Ebony satin, traded towards it 'cause I liked the satin look, the tone was awesome, and it was cheaper; I ended up having to return it due to a grain flaw on the back, but compared to 'regular models' I tried as replacements it sounded and played fine...and I also like the look better then a plain top - between those I would go satin for sure (though a nice figured is pretty sweet!) . The satin can be annoying if you are anal about shiny spots and what-not (as can the gloss with swirl marks etc). I actually think the gloss would have been easier to care for keeping "like new" in the long run, but if you like the look? Then no regrets! vincentw
Eljay's got it right. Satin finish and no binding on the neck.
