I need the value of 1974-1975 Gibson J-50 Deluxe stamped with B followed by 6 digits on headstock and made in USA. I don't know if I'm posting in the right area, so don't flame me. I need help with the value, been searching everywhere. Isn't there a bluebook?

Hello M66M,

You might want to check out Blue Book Publications at 1-800-877-4867 or contact a vintage dealer that offers such appraisal services

The two best sources of information are the 2010 edition of Vintage Guitar's Price Guide, available in fine bookstores everywhere, and eBay. The former tells you what you should expect to pay buying from a dealer, and the latter gives you the better clue as to what you can expect to get if you want to sell. Of the two most recent J-50 Deluxes listed on eBay, one sold for $760 after spirited bidding and the other failed to attract any bids after being offered at $1395. There's just not much demand for '70s Gibsons.

P.S. Took a look at the Price Guide today, and it gives $1300 to $1500 for one in excellent condition, so that $1395 was indeed way too high. Which means, if yours is in excellent condition and you're not in a hurry to sell, you could get something like $800 to $1000 by having a dealer sell it on consignment or by repeatedly listing on eBay until someone bites.
