mxdsa
Hello, This is my first post to the Gibson Forums. I play an ES 137. My reason for writing, however, is that an elderly friend of mine wants to sell her guitar and I have offered to help. It is a Gibson C1 Classic, I believe from 1960. The code on the sticker is "R-5190-24". The guitar is in good shape with one exception: there is a chip in the wood rim around the opening. The case is dark leather with a snake-like texture. I would appreciate any opinions on this guitar and its value as I am not learned among vintage guitars (yet). Thank you & have a pleasant day. Rame
Hello Mxdsa, I've never played a C-1 and I don't know how much they are sought after in the vintage market. Gibson made a variety for gut string guitars from 1939-1972 and I believe the C-1 is the most popular. At least that is the one I hear about most often. For appraisals we recommend Gruhn guitars in Nashville. www.gruhn.com I hope that helps.
