JAZZ: roach & haynes - percussion bittersweet

I've had the opportunity to see Roy Haynes play twice in the last few years, first with the Allman

Brothers, and then with Sonny Rollins...managed to see Max play back in Boston in the 90s...music

doesn't get any better than this...

 

max roach birthday broadcast now (1/10/08) followed by the roy haynes festival (1/11/08 - 1/23/08!)

Caught the show today on my analog box (AKA radio) while on the Belt toward the Verrazzano. Cool cat, good bop.

 

I listen to WKCR and Jazz88 every time I'm in the city (Mon - Fri) ...

I would have liked to have caught that myself. I have a VHS(yeah I know Olde!!!) that has the group Chick Corea put together remembering Bud powell, the group had done the Newport Jazz fest. Roy Haynes was the drummer. His solo during one of the tunes was unreal. All of the guys shuck their heads in amazement.

not sure if you mean the radio show, but it's on continuously for the next two weeks...bird and strings right now
