Dot wiring problems

I recently got a new Dot. its had some wiring problems and it should be going back to the shop for them to look at. But that wont be for a week.

 

I had a pickup which wasn't working and found out it was the volume pot, one of the legs was a little loose. Thats fixed now which is good.

 

However when I play, if i dont have the volume pots on full theres a slight buzz through the amp, same with the tone if theyre not at theyre lowest.

 

Is this normal?? i've only ever had fenders, which didnt have this problem.
