It really helps create that Strat "twang" sound (one of 10 sounds you can get from the Nighthawk ST3) It's interesting to note that in the 2009 Nighthawk version (NOT the re-issue), Gibson removed most of Fender-like features (see the choice of bridge & PUs) http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Designer/Gibson-USA/Nighthawk.aspx and most likely turned it into just another LP derivative...
