islandmike70
Good morning folks, I currently have a Les Paul Studio that by the serial number is a 2002. I love everything about it, even the heftiness of it and I'm looking to get a higher end Les Paul that has the same feel. I'm a big guy and don't mind lugging it around the stage. So is there a quick rule of thumb by year/model that Gibson started to "hollow out" for weight/sound quality etc.? Thanks for your time. ChanMan
Customs are your heavy friend. Historic reissues use the lightest mahognay available, but are not weight relieved. If you are looking for an older guitar, I'm thinking '82 or '83 is when they started, but I could be wrong.
BobB
The "sonically tuned weight relief chamber" was implemented in 2007 on Gibson USA Les Paul models (except the Les Paul Traditional).
