LarryBlue
I am looking at a '72 SG Custom with Bigsby, but it has that nasty front mounted control plate so the components are not mounted directly on the wood of the body. This was only done from mid 1971 through mid 1972 because it was so darned unpopular on the Customs. Does anybody have any idea how much this detracts from the actual value of the guitar? thanks. dem00n
On the vintage guitar price guide a 70s-73 walnut custom goes for $3,600-4,500 and the white ones goes for $4,500-5,500. I dont know if these are with bigsby or not.
Guest BentonC
Is it just the ugly-factor, or does the front mounted control plate cause problems?
LarryBlue
Is it just the ugly-factor, or does the front mounted control plate cause problems? I know it was so unpopular that it only lasted a year or less till Gibson got rid of it on the Custom model. In light of that, I think it hurts the value of the guitar. Whether it affects anything other than the 'ugly factor', I know not. thanks.
