ihc70
I've always set my SG's up for slide guitar. Action up to about 3/16 inch and currently tuned to open E. I've never had a problem before, but I just got a beautiful VOS LP SG Standard. Very nice. I happened across something on the interwebs that mentioned neck warping with the higher open tunings. A little more surfing brought loads of horror stories. Anybody out there have any experience with this? Anything to look for or be careful with? I love the sound of the bottleneck on the burstbuckers, but I don't want to damage this instrument. Any advice would be appreciated.
ibis
I haven't used anything but slack tunings on my SG 61. I would imagine the thin neck (we're talking about a 61 surfboard neck, right?) wouldn't be too stable with Open E if tuned permanently. Have you thought of tuning to Open Eb or Open D, or using lighter gauge strings?
