alexri
Hi there. I was having tuning issues with my SG for ages. Initial suspicion was the tuners, but everyone on various forums tried to brainwash me it was the nut, or anything except the tuners. It was not the nut. It was the tuners. I swapped them for Grovers and they are rock solid. My guitar is no longer a slipping machine. Anyway, the only thing is that the tuning shafts (the part where the string wraps around) are actually loose, they're not "stationary" in the headstock like the Klusons were. The 10mm bolts are perfectly snug, and so are the screws on the back of the headstock. Just wondering if it's normal for the tuning shafts to be loose? It makes me feel like I did something wrong. Thank you.

Guest farnsbarns
Ive got grovers on my MK and they dont move in the slightest I have a set of grovers on a dobro and there is quite a lot of lash where the shaft comes through the headstock. Never been a problem.

alexri
I'd also like to say that when the strings are on, they don't move at all. When I take the strings off, the shaft will move if I touch it (yes, very funny).
