BobB Posted May 6, 2012 Share Posted May 6, 2012 The format of the serial number appears consistent with a Gibson Custom Shop serial number from an instrument built in 2011. For more information, you can email pictures of the instrument to (service@gibson.com). We would be glad to authenticate it for you. When emailing pictures, be sure they are in JPG format and be sure the total file size of the attached pictures does not exceed 2 MB per email. Serf2ndClass Posted May 7, 2012 Share Posted May 7, 2012 Very similar to the serial on my ES330L The '5' was what interested me. It seems that 1 is 2011, 5 means it was made in Memphis, and 3847 is probably the production number as it came off the line. Getting confirmation on what the 5 meant was like getting blood out of a stone. Another way to put it is that Memphis Custom Shop guitars now start at serial number CSx50001 (x is the year).
