squtternutbosh77
I recently purchased a 1969 J-50 and instead of having a black pick guard, the pick guard was brownish. The person that I got it from was said the guitar was 100% all original parts, including pick guard was original. Every J-50 from 1969 has always had an original black pick guard as far as I was aware. Does anyone know if some J-50s during that 1969 brownish pick guard instead? Im just curious if the pick guard had possibly been replaced by the owner and he didnt want to tell me or that it could have been a later year J-50 from the 70s
retrorod
The '69 Gibsons are from a transitional period in manufacturing. The serial #'s are kind of screwy also, from this period. Some pictures of your guitar in detail, would help in my assessment and opinion. How does the guitar sound?
BobB
Transition to the black teardrop shaped pickguard happened in late 1969. Pictures would be helpful.
