giovanivan Posted September 4, 2012 Share Posted September 4, 2012 Hi, I am interested to buy Gibson Les Paul Custom R9 (1997) serial no. is "9 7066" from my friend (but he is not original owner). However, I have been informed (by the expert here in Thailand) on some information that need your help to verify these below; 1. All Gibson R9 which were produced in Year 1997 were not originally provided with Certificate of Authenticity (COA)from Gibson Custom Factory. Is it true ? 2. The original hard shell cases for LP R9 in 1997 were all provided with the normal Gibson Les Paul brown case (same as Gibson LP Standard) instead of Gibson Custom Hard Shell Case. Is it true ? StijnV Posted September 4, 2012 Share Posted September 4, 2012 1. True, because the Custom Shop started in 1999 with issueing certificates of authenticity with the R9's 2. Not true; only the R9's came with a Reissue Case (please see picture attached). All the other models came in a black case with red/ burgundy interior (see attached as well).
