Hi all,

I purchased the above guitar back in 2009 but due to ill health I have only just started to use the guitar. On playing it I felt that it didn't sound like any Gibson P90 I have ever used and I have used a few in my time. I had a look at this forum and guys were more or less saying the same thing plus they may not be the true Gibson P90 as we know it! At 3:00am this morning I was so concerned about it that I took one of the pickups off and on the underside of the pickup it says Epiphone USA P90. I was not happy as the only reason that I upgraded to this guitar was due to the Gibson P90 statement on the Epiphone page. I have contacted Thomann & Gibson/Epiphone Customer Services I have had no reply from them. Is there any further information available from Epiphone? I can see that Gibson make the pickups but they also make Epiphone Guitars. Does that mean that Epiphone is the same build quality as my ES-335 for example?

Hope you can help!

Eddie

Hi Eddie,

Welcome to the forum. This has been discussed a few times. Here is one of the more exhaustive threads on the subject, if you haven't seen it.

I myself think they are the same as Gibson pickups, just with a different sticker. Perhaps the difference in tone you are experiencing is more of a function of the guitar (true hollow body construction, pickup placement due to neck being set at the 16th fret, specific wood, etc.).

Hope this helps.

Tom
