britabe
anyone here have a feel for what pups would be found in a 80'-81' LP standard? A bud of mine has one and i just cant get away from how great it sounds every time i play it (he had let me use it over the past few years). it cleans up better than any LP i ever played. just curious. slimjimdom
TAKE IT APART!! I'm sure your buddy will love you for it. Ok joking aside. Have you asked him which pickups are in the guitar. They may not be the p/u's that would be found in any standard LP.

tazzboy
If it's a Les Paul Standard and has pat # engraved with ink stamp number then it's the Tim Shaw PAF Pickups. I would have to see the pictures to tell.

midnight sun
These would come with t-tops and engraved patent number series at the back of the pu, or the black back with circuit lines showing and marked HB-R and HB-L. These are the early predecessors to the 490R/498T combos. Hope this helps.
Bram
Tim Shaw pickups are quite low output right? How do they sound in general? Neck/bridge...
tazzboy
Yeah I believe mine are 7.35 in the neck and 7.55 in the bridge.
