truMTV
/As the title says, when did Gibson change their wiring pattern from the 50's wiring to the 60's wiring? Did it start sometime in 1960 or come about in 1961 witht he release of the SG?

stein
I am not sure if I am correct in this, but I think it had some to do with the change in pickups more than anything. I THINK with the humbucker becoming the "standard" pup for nearly all Gibby models, that's when the wiring change came about. And also, more of a standardization of wiring for all other models as well. I am thinking '59? I don't know the actual info or even where to find it, but in google searches I see that before the change to humbucker, when the P-90 was the "standard" pup, pot values and cap values varied with model of guitar, and there are many more differences. Most humbucker wiring and harnesses I see are pretty much identical in spec regardless of model of guitar, meaning 500k pots, 60's wiring pattern and .022 caps.
