Ttayta
Hey guys I recently was given a very old lap steel with no kind of brand markings or serial number. After some research I believe it may be a vintage Gibson but I'm not positive. I've included pictures and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me? As you can tell from the pictures it has a built in quarter inch and what appears to be inlays but those are just stickers added by someone at some point. L5Larry
This is a Valco/Supro built lap steel probably sold through Sears & Roebuck stores under the brand name "Silvertone". Google "Silvertone Lap Steel", go to images, and will will find this instrument. Once you convince yourself that it's NOT a Gibson, do a little research on National/Valco/Supro, and you will learn a lot about another icon of mid-20th century American musical instruments.
