2014 Gibson SG Mini Etune

I have been doing some research on these guitars and they seem to really get high reviews everywhere I've looked. I'm considering one of these for my first Gibson electric purchase. I currently own a Songwriter Deluxe Studio Cutaway as I enjoy acoustic guitar mainly. Everyone seems to talk down the Mini Etune feature at first, but then ends up praising in the end. Personally, I think it's something I would love as I would be more inclined to explore alternate tunings more than I do now as I'm too lazy to re-tune. lol That said, I can see this thing breaking down over time and just becoming a thing mounted to the back of my Gibson headstock which would really upset me. If I understand correctly, you can still manually tune but it obviously the gear mechanisms internally have to be in working order for that to work properly. If for whatever reason you have to manual tune and the gear mechanism starts to wear or go bad, it seems like the guitar would struggle to ever stay in tune.

I'm just thinking out loud here .... just curious if anyone has owned one for a few months and put it through the ringer and can speak to the etune device and it's durability. Not sure how long these have been out (Guessing 11-12 months) so may not be enough data to speak conclusively.

Anyways .... thought I would ask. Thanks.

Breaking down - you can always remove the device and install standard tuners. The Mini Etune is getting mixed reviews on these forums. I can't speak to the latest iteration, but you can check this thread - http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/117255-min-etune-pros-and-cons/ . . I bought a SG Robot new in 2008 (somewhat the same tech by Tronical) and it's still working just fine.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah makes sense to install regular tuners, just didn't know if it would leave the headstock marred up. Guess that's character as some say. :-). Really cool technology ... great looking guitar btw!
