Guitar wood is always moving, humidity, temperature, etc.....so when a guitar is compensated in present time, the compensation may be off a month later. If the guitar is new, and the belly rises in the first few months, again compensation off. Change strings from 12's to 13's...again compensation off. adjust the truss rod on the neck...again compensation changes....lol....BUT better to have the compensation on at least the B string than not. Also, one of the reasons I like floating bridges and saddles...PERFECT compensation every time!!!

Jerry K....you are really a tragic person.....clearly, this was meant as a JOKE you silly man!!!! So, YOU'VE toured the factory, great, now you can walk on water when it comes to anything Gibson??? Unfortunately, I've only taken the video tour that is on line. BUT, I have more Gibson's than YOU!!! So, based on your logic, I am a BIGGER Gibson fan than YOU!!! Of course, one day, I can only hope and aspire to have as many as 23 Gibson's as some of the other fans on the forum, BUT I'm there in spirit!! I'm trying....I'm doing my best.....please help me to be a bigger Gibson fan, these personal attacks are REALLY helping.....

I know exactly where you're coming from, and I don't blame you at all. There at a lot of apologists here, and I ain't one of them. I love my Gibsons, but they aren't perfect. Maybe that's one of the reasons I love them. But I don't put them--or the company--on a pedestal. I'll keep "undoing" your thumbs down votes, as I don't think that's an appropria...

Clearly, you've done something to upset somebody. Some folks have little sense of humor. I work with most of them every day.

Wily, I'm still working on the west coast schedule. Gibson offered to fly me to the Homecoming in June and then promptly stopped returning my message (business as usual for Gibson). So, stay tuned.

This is the only other National acoustic I've seen...I think his price is a little out of line.....Do you have a good luthier you work with or do you do your own work? I've just got a Gibson MK-72 that is getting some fret work, I haven't posted it on the forum yet. These get a very bad rap, generally, But the one I got sounds GREAT and besides the bridge, lol...is quite good lookin...

I have not paid for it yet as we are still haggling. If I recall the VPG gives the value in the $500 range. The bridge is lifting so that knocks the value down a bit. I figure if I walk in with cash in my wallet I should be able to get it for less than $400.

Wiley, mine's maple. A short-scale mahogany AJ would be just like a Fuller's J-35, except with a flatter neck profile and the arrow inlays. The Fuller's is a great guitar. Good sustain, lots of volume, but a little drier than a J-45.

I love ya Bro. As you know, fixing these guitars up is just another form of GAS. I already have the next project waiting in the wings - a 1954 Kay-made National. Has that funky bolt-on "Stylist" neck. But with the neck profile and 24.75" scale it has a very familiar Gibson feel to it.

John, keep doing what you're doing. This ASCAP crap ebbs and flows. They're definitely a pain and they do frighten some business owners, but then they kind of disappear for a while and things calm down. Keep playing and focus on writing some songs. It's a blast. Plus, it will help make you a better picker.
