  1. Guys, the adhesive used for most modern pickguards is a film transfer. It comes in a sheet and is usually 3M 467. It is a PSA adhesive which simply means, "pressure sensitive adhesive". If memory serves me well, if clamped for 72 hours the adhesive will reach maximum strength and in our tests, if we attempted to pull up on the guard, it will rip wood out of the top! When the silvery, shimmering thing is going on under the pickguard, use a clamp with a small block of wood attached to the clamp to get past the braces. We use another small piece of MDF with smooth leather on the bottom and clamp this MDF block over the silvery areas with firm pressure for a few minutes at a time. It works very well. On my own gurads, I use a full sized clamping caul and clamp the pickguard overnight.
