  1. I think your missing the point. This is the opposite. 😀
  2. So I'm positing this here in the vintage forum because, I assume it's the old girls that can cloud our judgment. Today I knowingly overpaid for a guitar. It's a Gibson 165. While not a vintage, it's something that I had lusted over for a while. I found one and what appears to be awesome condition. I didn't care. I wanted it. I bought it. To soften the blow, I justified it by trying to offset my overpayment with a couple other good deals I think I got: I did a lot of buying and selling over Covid. Overall, my total guitar portfolio balance sheet is strong. 😉 Has anyone ever "lost it" and just went for it because you just had to have it? I hope so. I hate to be the only one.
  3. I sent a note asking him to justify his price obviously, no reply
  4. That's the end that was in the guitar. You can see the other end in the picture of the guitar.
  5. This is what it looks like. Does that help? This probably "belt and suspenders" since I keep my office at, average, 48% RH.
  6. I'll keep it, too hard to replace. Will have to suplement with another one.
  7. Single. I always thought these were dumb but, now know how to play them; pick near the neck for more mellow, softer tones and towards the bridge for brighter. I've always understood that principle but, never thought about in terms of using single pickup guitar. Who needs two pickups? 😃
  8. Ah ha! Glad I asked. Better guitar because of materials and construction I assume. Thanx for your feedback. I guess that makes sense when you compare what 330 fetches these days compared to the others.
  9. So, i own a '59 330. I love everything about it except - as shallow as I know this sounds - the body shape (i.e., the "335" look). I prefer either non cutaway or single cutaway of a similar vintage like a 125, 150 or 225. I think, if similarly equipped, in this case single P90 centrally placed, they should sound VERY similar. Such that without A/B comparison, indistinguishable. Of course, all else being equal (strings, condition, bridge, etc.) Am I wrong? I'm considering a switch.
  10. Agreed. But, what I can't reconcile on selling on Reverb/Ebay is, let's say I have a guitar with market value of $1,000. If I sell it on Reverb/Ebay i will only get $965 of that +/- differencce between what I collected for shipping plus what I paid for shipping. Then I have to pack (maybe go out and buy packing material) and go drop off at UPS/FedEx, etc. Then, hope that it arrives w/o damage. If not, there's a whole 'nother headache. Then I have to reimburse for full amount and try to deal with the claims process with the shipper. Me personally, I would rather deal with someone in person. I'm only dealing with someone that is interested in High End Guitars, Bikes, Stereo Equipment and Photography stuff. The demographic of the folks I meet are relatively safe. I never meet with someone who I haven't had a decent phone conversation with. I use my judgement and avoid risky or murky situations. After awhile you get a good sense of peoples intentions or credibility. FWIW, just last weekend, I traded my '82 335 for a '59 330. It was great. We even had a beer after and talked shop. Many stories like that. My son wanted to sell his Xbox on CL. I told him forget it. No way in hell.
  11. I'd say it's worth the chance. There's a very low probability that anything bad will happen and the reward is worth taking that chance.
  12. Well, I was looking for a more versatile option (mic) as my other acoustic has F-Holes.
  13. We can't assume they're all nutjobs. Almost 90% of what I buy/sell (too big or expensive to ship items) I sell/buy on CL or Facebook Marketplace. 99.9% excellent transactions. I get it, everyone's experiences are different but, I think overall, it's a great option.
  14. Thanx, my post weren't real ideas. I don't even know if they're realistic or feasible. Just hypothetical. Does any one have any real guidance on this?
  15. I have a small amp and electric guitar - Check that box. I have: 1. Acoustic guitars w/o pups 2. Rode NT1-A Just looking for some guidance like, "Just get an XLR to 1/4in adapter and use your regular guitar amp, everyone does it and it's the most common approach" or, "You'll need a dedicated acoustic/pa/keyboard amp that accepts XLR input" "Don't bother, just get a pickukp and plug into your guitar amp" thanx
  16. Good question. Surprise for Family next Christmas? Nope. They wouldn't appreciate it. I tried a little of that this year and my wife said it didn't sound right. 😣 Jup up to play at an open mic night? Nope. Too shy. Full on gigging equipment? Nope. Not in the near future. Requirements are small jam sessions with friends. Style = 70% Jazz Standards (L7), 30% Rock/Blues (J100)* *Will also have 330T through other amp. thanx
  17. Mic. I have '47 L7 and a '94 J100. Both w/o pup. I will need some amplication for both. I have a mic. thanx!
  18. Thanx much for the direction. Agreed most new acoustics these days have them but, there were TONS made before recently that don't. I have two types, J100 and L7. thanx again.
  19. Everytime I search using keywords: Acoustic, Amplifier, I get back information which assumes I have a pickup on my guitar. Simply, I want to understand combo amp options to let me plug in a microphone which is picking up my acoustic guitar. Doesn't anybody do this?? Maybe there's a good reason I can't find any information. thanx in advance for all your advice. jrp
