  2. Hi there, This is my first post on this site - but I had to jump in on this one. I have this same guitar - black 1977 Gibson SG. I think it was made Dec 23rd 1977 if I'm not mistaken. I've talked to Gibson about it through emails before. Does your's say "Made in USA" on the back of the headstock? Mine doesn't - they say that because of that they think there were repairs done to it and when they repainted it, the Made in USA disappeared. Personally, I don't buy it. I've seen the same black 1977 guitar on Ebay before too - I think it's just a run they didn't document or catalog perhaps. It might have been transitional as someone else said. I agree it is the best guitar I've ever played as well. It can't be a fake - it's quality is so high and it seems to meet all of Gibson's specs as well (volute, serial number font, etc). I bought mine on Ebay in 2006 for $1000 approx. from the original owner from Arizona. He had 2 of them he told me and used to gig with them constantly. It is all original - no modifications or repairs. To me - it is worth more than what you paid for it - as I've played many SGs and these ones are really special - whether or not it's a Standard or a 'Special'...
