One thing I like about open G is you tune 3 strings down and 3 stay the same, so your strings have no chance of breaking. You may want to tweak the truss rod a tad if it gets buzzy.

Here is the open G tuning from low to high. D-G-B-D-G-B-D

    Youve 7 strings there dude

You should be able to figure out the model from the f holes rather than the more common two eyes.  My take on Regals is they are fine for a cheap resonator but generally benefit by at least upgrading to a Quaterman cone.   At one time maybe 20 or so years ago Amistar in the Czech Republic was making resonators for Regal.  I know they made a Tricone metal body and I am not sure what, if anything, else.

🤔 I’m not sure how I can figure out the model from the f holes 🤷🏻‍♂️ could you explain what you mean there zomby?

  3. You’ll need to drill the end pin hole unless you want to leave the wires hanging out the sound hole

like was said , a sound hole pickup does no harm apart from the drilling at the end .
mid highly recommend a K&K pickup which will also rule out having to place anything under the saddle a la piezo variations , and also won’t interfere with the tone of the guitar , which piezos kinda do and also will require saddle lowering to accommodate the little strip of piezo

I do very much dig the Massey album. I spot-listened to this a bit and like it as well. I'll give it a proper listen this week. I did listen to "Helpless", though. It's very good as was the version on the Massey album. The version on the Massey album version is inspiring, showing just how musical he can be using just a "simple" acoustic guitar bit.

It's funny - I'm very much an album lover by habit, but for Neil Young's music, I do dig his live offerings. Massey, and then later on with Rust Never Sleeps, Weld and then the Unplugged one a while after that. There is a DVD he did in Nashville about 10-15 years back. Quite an ensemble of performers. The highlight for me is a version of "Old Laughing Lady" he does alone in the center of the stage to an empty hall. he plays it in double drop D.

One of my favourite performances that laughing lady song in that DVD

At 2:35 he tweaks the tuning of his 1st string without missing a beat.    This gave me knot in my stomach.   Wowsers !

Yeah I’ve a pal who can do that mid song , freaks me out !
