Besides appearance and price, what differences are there between these two guitars? I believe the 1960's version has a torrified top as well a red line case. Does anyone think it sound $1,000 better than the regular hummingbird? I won't be able to play these before purchasing.

Hey, I just got mine and I feel like i got great deal on it. Mine is the sunburst model and i got it for $5100
-
Have you had a chance to play any of the new models?

Does anybody know where I can pick up one of these new Southern Jumbo 1942 models? I've been to all the big guys sites but nobody has them yet?

Sounds really great, does anyone think it sounds better than one of the "normal" hummingbirds that is quite a bit cheaper?
-
Very helpful, thanks for the replies. Sounds like I may have to get a few of them and see which I like more.

The new custom one is Rosewood.

Sounds great.

Okay thanks, then how does the Southern Jumbo fit in with those?
-
Which was the loudest with bigger bass?

I'm considering a few of the new 2020 models. What are the tone differences between the Advanced Jumbo, Original Jumbo, and Southern Jumbo? Is there a ton of overlap between the 3?
-
Interesting, thanks for the replies.

I see that there are 2 models of custom shop 2020 hummingbirds, one with adjustable saddle and one without. Why would one want an adjustable saddle? What't adjustable about them?
-
How much overlap is there between the Southern Jumbo and AJ? Stupid to own both?
-
sweet.

What 3 did you get?

Anyone been able to play any of the 2020 Historic lineup? I'm pretty intrigued by the SJ200 Pre War as well as the 1942 Southern Jumbo.
-
I've been debating getting a Wildwood Vintage AJ, has anyone played one of those. They are pretty expensive but look like a great instrument.
That is absolute beauty personified, Bassetman-I can’t wait to get my hands on mine!

I've seen this and asked the question before. Supposedly it's illegal for Japanese Gibson dealers to ship to the US. The people on ebay are resellers who typically don't own the actual guitar they are selling. If you buy, they go buy from the store where it's much cheaper than US prices.

Original poster here, I did not install medium strings. I took it to my tech today to the lower the action and put a bone saddle in. One thing I wanted to make clear, was that the treble measurement wasn't 3/64. I never measured the treble. I said that i was at 9/64 on the 12th fret and 3/64 on the first fret. Both measurements were on the low E string.
If you installed med gauge strings on your Humingbird it could raise the action. Gibson ships the Humingbird with light strings.
-
Bryn6490, I assume those measurements are not using a capo to depress any strings and measuring from the fret to the underside of the string, correct?
-
The action on my new HB seems fairly high especially as it moves up the fret board. The 12th fret measures 9/64ths with no strings depressed. It's around 3/64ths on the first fret. Is this high? My Taylor seems to much lower.

How does the Dove compare against the Hummingbird? I've been surprised when i read that the Dove is loud, that's never been my experience with maple guitars.
