Hello oldmarauder, don't know that much about serial numbers of that time but despite of this I congratulate you on your buy. L5Larry Posted July 4, 2013 Share Posted July 4, 2013 serial no.00179541 Between 1975 and 1977 Gibson used an 8-digit serial number system where the first 2-digits were a year code. The serial number and model name (along with the Made In USA) were generally on a waterslide decal applied to the back of the headstock. The two digit year code was just barely spaced slightly from the other six numbers. This 8-digit serial number system is not to be confused with the current 8-digit coded system.
