Flinx
Hi, all! A friend of mind has a guitar that belonged to her father. She told me that the guitar was appraised by a "music" store at a local flea market, and that it was worth between $5000.00 and $6000.00, and was a model from 1952. I'm mostly an acoustic guy, and have no real expertise in the field of electric guitars, or older Gibsons for that matter, but my first reaction was that she should get the guitar professionally appraised by someone of note, especially since the guitar comes with the original case, which she says is in good condition and contains a built-in amp that is functional. I asked her to send me some pictures, and she did her best, with her cell phone, from how they look. However, I thought that I'd post the best of them, and see if someone here might be able to give me some idea of the guitar's worth ... enough to decide if transporting the guitar for a professional appraisal would be worth the time and effort, like driving to Gruhn's in Nashville. Pics: Thanks in advance for any information ... ... Flinx
CR9
A serial number would really help. See if there is a label inside one of the f-holes and post that information.
Jayyj
I'm going to say ES-225 with replaced tailpiece. The other option would be an ES125TDC but rare to see one in the dark sunburst and there's no neck binding on a 125. I take it this is a pearl headstock logo? My eyesight isn't up to figuring it out! Neither guitar was available in 1952, nor unfortunately are they worth north of $5K, but still a very nice guitar. George Gruhn (http://www.gruhn.com/) has an ES-225 with the original tailpiece for $3500 at the moment.

They did make some 225's with a tune-o-matic and a standard trapeze tailpiece like this one, but relatively few, as I understand it. So, this appears to be an ES-225TD (TD= Thin body, Double pickup). These were made from 1956 to 1959. More info here: http://www.ggjaguar.com/es225.htm
