benduncan
I've been using Gibson Les Paul Signature strings for about five years, but lately I've been wanting something tighter. I picked up a set of the Vintage Reissue, 11's(the LP's are 9-46), I figured that they would sound similar since they are both nickel wound. To me, they don't. After messing around with my EQ for an hour in vain, I put some Les Pauls back on. Boom, there's my tone again. Does anyone know the difference between these strings? or is it just the size difference? I'd love it if I could have the tone of the LP sigs but with a larger size. Twang Gang
Seems odd that a couple of millimeters would make that much difference in tone. Don't know the answer. I use Elixir medium (.011-.049) on my LP and all other electrics. But tone is a very personal thing so I guess you just have to stick with the ones that work for you. Do they make the LP signature strings in .011? If they do maybe try those.
