Raptor
Figuring (flame and quilting etc) does not add to or detract from the tone, it is purely aesthetics. The wood is still fine, but it has changed. They now have to use different suppliers and slightly different species for several reasons and good, lightwieght mahogany is getting to be scarce. The best quality woods are being used by the Custom Shop. This is why Gibson USA has switched to chambering vice the swiss cheese weight relief method. Two guitars made with wood from the same tree can sound different. A lot of the larger guitar makers have stockpiles of wood, but eventually they too will eventually run into the same problems depending on what species they use predominantly. Geetar_Axl
So they add the flame and quilts themselves?! I thought it was just the wood? How do they do that? Wouldnt it disappear after the pain goes on?
lespauler
i had an Ibanez Artist model 2002 model, i knew the flame was not real. the maple was not AA but somehow painted to show like a flametop..............

DaddyO
I don't know about that but i will tell you this, my 2000 standard seems to be of much better quality than the new ones. It sounds better IMHO.......
ToneBaron
Anyone' date=' how do they make flame tops and quilts?[/quote'] Figuring (flame/quilt) in the wood is naturally occurring.
