Fatstrat
A friend as Gibson Classical guitar that we believe to be a 1967 C-1. The question we have is is it solid or laminate? Can't find anything online other than the generic "spruce over mahogany" description. Anyone here know which it is?
j45nick
Could be either one. The LG/B/C models all shared the same body plan, and generally the same materials, which seem to have varied from year to year in the 1960's. If there is a removable endpin in the guitar, you can sometimes tell by removing it and inspecting the rim wood inside the endpin hole under magnification. However, if the guitar is actually configured like a classical, it probably won't have an endpin. You can also sometimes tell by examining the grain of back and sides inside the body, and comparing them with the grain on the outside. This is not so easy with mahogany, since the grain tends to very even and plain, whether it's ply or solid wood.
