Gibson SG newbie

Hey guys, I'm glad I found this forum and just wanted to ask a few questions. I hope I didn't post on the wrong section.

A friend of mine owed me some money, so he offered to give me his Gibson SG, so I agreed. I did some research and checked the serial number and I believe it's a 2002 model.

I have no idea what the value would be, as the guitar head is cracked. It seems like they tried to repair it, but it doesn't look like they did a very good job.

Hello and welcome to this nice place in the web.

I'm sorry to hear what your trouble brought you here.

In case of a snapped off peghead that has been repaired perfectly, a guitar has lost 40 to 50% of the value it would have with an immaculate neck in otherwise same condition. A poor repair attempt makes it all worse and can mean the guitar can be repaired successfully at a big expense and, despite of an invisible or nearly invisible repair, may still suffer the devaluation caused by damage and failed repair.

Is there a way for you to return the guitar and get the money instead?
